Frank Mir: We Can Close The Books On Junior Dos Santos' Submission Game

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir owns nine victories by way of submission, and is widely considered one of the top fighters in the division on the ground.

Mir, who is rumored to be headed for a match up with Daniel Cormier later this year, was recently asked his thoughts on the Cain Velasquez-Junior dos Santos heavyweight contest that took place last month. Velasquez bruised and battered dos Santos for 25 minutes, securing the UFC heavyweight title in the process.

"I actually had it 50/50 going in," said Mir, during an interview with Studio MMA. "I still felt that Velasquez (would win), I've always said he is one of the most well-rounded heavyweights."

Mir continued to break down the fight, talking specifically about the area he is most known for: submissions.

"On the ground (Velasquez) at least went for a submission attempt," Mir said. "Everybody says Junior has submissions on the ground. I think we can close the book on that. After 25 minutes, he went for zero attempts."

Mir (16-6) had his three-fight win streak snapped by dos Santos last May, falling by second round TKO to the then-champion.
